Technique AND GIVEAWAY!!!

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Okay, seriously now, I’m posting this for the TECHNIQUE of using multiple pumpkins, not because I’m a Minnie Mouse fan (not that there’s anything wrong with being a MM fan). It has nothing to do with paper (as many of my “how to” projects don’t) but it’s just that I find it quite interesting that I (the creative one) was creating a pumpkin masterpiece yesterday (can you guess what it was?) and was less than thrilled with the stupid ears I had to draw (because I had no ideas for anything else!) WHY didn’t I think of using mini pumpkins or gourdes as the ears??? Arghhh! I’m off to fix my super pumpkin masterpiece (which I’ll post soon).

(I seriously hope this thing turns out as cute as I think it will)

(Gasp! IDEA!) Submit your best guess as to what you think my super pumpkin masterpiece is. Those who are correct will receive a cool free gift - and yes, it will be a REALLY cool, quality, “definitely worth the time to submit my best pumpkin guess” gift, (NEVER anything junky from the Paperie!)

I will accept submissions from October 27th through midnight Friday, October 31st. Submit your guess by posting it as a comment right here on this blog.
I will be posting a pic of my S.P.M. on November 1 (no laughing, I’m a paper artist, not a pumpkin artist).

Yet ANOTHER Reason Why I love Martha

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Besides being a brilliant, trailblazing, take-no-crap ex-con, I love that she puts Paw-Paw on the counter and could care less what anyone thinks. If you click on the pics multiple times you’ll get to see her kitchen a little better.

How to Make Roses from Maple Leaves!

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

I came across this little gem by accidentally clicking on something somewhere (seriously, I have no idea how I got to this crafty little page). Anyway, I’m going outside right now to collect a bunch of maple leaves.

Etiquette: Go Ahead, Ask: Who the H*LL Put Me in Charge of Manners?

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

Well, the great thing about having your own blog (key words: YOUR OWN) is that I get to put myself in charge of any and all categories!

Okay, so originally when I started this blog and considered doing etiquette predicaments, I seriously wanted to barf at the idea of having to get all prim and proper and careful about how I was going to write it. Would I offend people? Would I have to write like I was Emily Post? Both would have me sitting here at the computer for hours editing and editing, so I got to thinking…why not just write these little etiquette dilemmas as if I were talking to a bunch of gals? Really, it’s the only way I can write this little blog and I don’t have to constantly bug other people, asking them, “read this before I post it, does it sound ok?”

Back to the real question…Does Cami Even Know What She’s Talking About?”
Imagine how embarrassing this whole thing would be if I didn’t.
I literally POUR and POUR over all things etiquette. Big, huge, thick heavy etiquette books to really thin, skinny pocket etiquette books. Modern etiquette books which talk about the groom’s blackberry ringing while you’re walking down the aisle to more classic etiquette books featuring how to cook a pleasant meal for your mother-in-law for the first time. And there’s also the endless magazine columns (mostly bridal) and the tons of websites…

So I promise to try to always find the best and most useful tips for my readers. If you disagree, want to make a comment or share a great story - PLEASE DO!
I can’t wait to hear from you!

Updated Studio Pics!

Friday, October 17th, 2008

Okay, for all the curious ones who inquired, here it finally is! I’m done taking pics of the studio(s) and have managed to do it without exposing the messy parts. Yes, it really is studios (plural). There’s studio south (entire lower level of my house has been converted) and studio north (guest room upstairs was hijaked by me 3 years ago - it serves as my photo studio and storage for tools, supplies, paper, and decorative paper which can’t be exposed to sunlight. This is also the room where I hide illegal purchases from my husband.

Pumpkin Place Setting (or just really sparkly pumpkins for Fall)

Friday, October 17th, 2008

The glittering technique is super easy (I love you, Martha Stewart).

1. Spray a mini pumpkin (a real one, not an artificial one) with spray adhesive.

2. Sprinkle with ultrafine glitter.

3. Enjoy having glitter all over your hair, body and studio for the next month.

These sparkly little orbs take only minutes to create. I was able to spray and glitter these three pumpkins in less than ten minutes. (The tags…a different story. Why must I layer everything?)

Unfortunately, I could not take a pic of me actually glittering the pumpkins since I do not have four hands and do not trust my husband with anything more advanced than the disposable camera he bought 6 years ago. The Martha Stewart ultrafine glitter works spectacularly well. (again, I love you, Martha).

I highly recommend using spray adhesive since it’s so quick and easy. Unlike     the white glue, it isn’t thick and doesn’t interfere with the natural ridges in the pumpkin. If you absolutely must use the white stuff, water it down a lot. Trust me, the glitter will still stick.

Tacky or Not?

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

While reading this month’s issue of “Bride’s” magazine, I came across this little bit in the column titled “Etiquette Police.”

You go to a bridal shower and each guest is asked to write her name and address on a blank envelope to help the bride with her thank you notes. The question was, “Is it tacky?”

Um…Yes.

Cute Placecard Idea for winter events

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Here’s a cute placecard idea for any winter event (holiday parties, dinner dinner events, wedding receptions and so much more! You can spray the pinecone with some pine-scented spray (but use a quality spray, otherwise you’ll just make a stinky pinecone). Another way to spruce it up is to glitter the very edges of the tag and/or the edges of the pinecone with crystal glitter.

Cami in a stock photo…odd but true!

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

Here’s how I found this crazy pic

I received an email from an old friend which said, “do you know that there is a picture of you for sale on the Internet? Apparently, she thinks it’s really hilarious to leave it at that, providing no more information and refusing to answer her cell phone for a whole day. Hilarious, just hilarious.

After leaving about 106 voice messages and 949 text messages, she calls me, all cheerful and says, “Oh Cami, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to scare you, it’s only a stock photo,” to which I reply, “WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, WHY DON’T YOU LISTEN TO YOUR MESSAGES OR ANSWER YOUR TEXTS?”
Apparently, the statement, “there is a picture of you, FOR SALE on the Internet” has no real serious implications to her.
So she gives me the site, I see the pic, and thankfully, it’s not scandalous.

But still, I must ask myself:

1. Why am I in a stock photo?
2. Did I ever give permission? Hmmmmm, it’s quite possible but unfortunately, my memory is failing me. I DO have a vague recollection of this photo being taken but I really don’t remember why or what for. It’s quite possible that some strange person with a camera walked into my store and I blurted out, “hey, would you like to take a picture of me holding paper and then sell it on the Internet?”
3. And if so, WHY didn’t I have the sense in my head to put some lipstick and mascara on?

FYI: This photo was taken at my former retail location in Purcellville, Virginia.

Here it is…
