You Tube Video

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

I find this video interesting since I can’t figure out what the big deal is. A LOT (yes, A LOT) worse could happen (and can’t she just give him the ring later? Can’t she whisper to him, ‘I forgot it, sorry, my bad’. And WHY is the maid of honor getting hysterical?) This is nowhere near the catastrophe that they make it out to be. Shame on mom, too.

Vegan Wedding Cakes

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

I can attest to the yumminess of this bakery since I’ve actually been there. Not only is overflowing with tons of yummy sweets, but come to find out they happily do vegan cakes! Yes, I said HAPPILY! Who cares if you’re not vegan? I’m telling you, vegan cakes and sweets are de-lish. Click here to go to Sticky Fingers site.

Holy cow! Look at this cake!

So here I am, cruising around “my” Internet (as my father likes to refer to it…as in, “Cami, would you look up the weather in Paris on YOUR Internet?) Anyhoo, I can’t even imagine how many hours went into this cake. To see Maribelle’s other amazing creations, check out her website.

or…if you don’t want me to do the assembly and printing for you (what?) you can do your own thing, and order just the pieces!

I know, it looks almost exactly the same as the first pic but if you look closely, you’ll see that:

1. It’s not assembled

2. There’s no “Mele” family printed on there.

Turkish Shoe Signing Tradition

Monday, November 17th, 2008

I love this! I was just checking out Martha Stewart’s website and saw this:

Shoe signing has been a Turkish tradition among brides for generations. Single bridesmaids and female friends sign your bridal shoe. After the night has ended, the person whose name has faded the most will be the next to marry.

Emergency Wedding Bands

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

Forgot the Wedding Bands? Here are some ideas for what to use after telling the best man / maid of honor that it’s really no big deal (it really is no big deal – you’re still getting married).
LOSING the wedding bands is another story.

Here’s what the resourceful bride and groom could use:

Someone else’s wedding bands (preferably an older couple that’s been married for a very long time. Good karma never hurts on your wedding day)

A piece of paper fitted, folded and taped. A napkin would work, or you could use a page from your wedding program

Ask someone for their hoop earrings – you’ll probably need to find two different ladies with two different sizes since you’re hubbie’s finger is larger than yours.

Grass (not the illegal kind, the kind that grows on lawns).

If you don’t like any of these ideas, you could always just mime it.

Songs That Won’t Make You Want to Stab Yourself in the Ear

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

Okay, this will be an ongoing, evolving list of songs that aren’t your typical, hear at every wedding, make you want to stab yourself in the ear songs. I tend to loath those typical sappy love songs. I’ll keep searching the ever so generous Internet and asking every single person I meet what song they used or will be using. Please feel free to add your comments, song ideas and even barfy songs that all self respecting couples should avoid.

Anyone wondering what my wedding song was? Anyone? It was Viva Las Vegas by Elvis Presley. This was completely appropriate since my husband and I were married in Las Vegas at The Chapel of the Flowers. This was by far the funnest day of my life. Elvis (not the real one) walked me down the aisle, then sang (just like the real one) all throughout the ceremony). It was awesome. Whenever we hear Viva Las Vegas, wherever we are, we start dancing.

So here begins my list of songs that I hope won’t make you want to stab yourself in the ear:

Heavenly Day – Patty Griffin (My absolute favorite song on this list so far.

These Are the Days – Van Morrison

Daughter – Loudon Wainwright

Wildflowers – Tom Petty

Days Like This – Van Morrison

The Wonder of You – Elvis Presley (check out the video on the right side of the page!)

You are the Best Thing – Ray LaMontagne

I Love Being Here With You – Ella Version (my fave) or Diana version and there’s a Queen Latifah version which is actually excellent.
You will definitely need to know how to dance Arthur Murray style for this song.

Besame Mucho(Translation: “Kiss Me A Lot”) This song was originally performed by Edmund Hall in the 30′s but over the past 70 years has been performed by many artists. I like the Dianna Krall version and the Andrea Bocelli version, but if you search the Internet, you’ll find lots more.
