Invitation Wording ~ Correct Salutations
Q: We’re American. My future hub is lawyer is a lawyer. Can he use the title “esquire” on the invitation?
A: Here in America, it’s not proper to use “esquire”, that is, unless you want to be an unproper American. The title “esquire” is traditionally English, so why not let the English use it.
Q: I’m known as “Killah” by everyone. Is it okay to use that nickname on my invitations?
A: Hmmm. Although quite endearing, nicknames are not used on traditional wedding invitations. That said, here at Cami’s Paperie, we don’t do a lot of traditional invitations, so…if you feel comfy using “Killah”, go right ahead.
Q: My mother is a medical doctor but my father is not. How do we word that?
A: Well, according to Crane’s Wedding Blue Book, she is supposed to use “Mrs.” and her name goes after your father’s. BUT…this is 2008, soon to be 2009, AND according to the same publication, it is also perfectly acceptable for mom to use her professional title AND place her name before dad’s (which is exactly what I would do – she worked hard for that title). Yay mom!
